He ignited the end of my filtered cigarillo, my first foray into the world of smoking. Internally, I scolded myself for failing to light the tip properly. ‘Don’t blow it, Carly,’ I thought as he kindly reminded me to inhale. Nodding as though well-versed in this ritual, I mechanically drew in the smoke. My lungs protested, but I preferred incineration to a cough. This scenario repeated a few times before I adjusted my beanie hat – a staple more vital than shoes in my 2014 wardrobe.
At this pinnacle of my hipster phase, my favorite accessories took the form of coffee shops, folk punk music venues, botanical gardens, and vineyards. Seated outside Roswell Provisions with a friend and as well as the man I would eventually marry (he values his privacy, so let’s call him “the-man-of-the-house”), we sipped coffee, delved into conversations on anarcho-capitalism, and managed our “environmentally friendly” cigarettes. This encounter, the first of many, marked the commencement of my life as a local weekend warrior, exploring the eclectic, unique, elegant, and refined. Over time, I shed pretension, replacing the beanie with headbands, but upheld the tradition with the-man-of-the-house by my side and now our daughter, baby Maple.
The Cute North Georgian is my labor of love, a passion project where I share the romantic, sophisticated, and simply enjoyable locations and events that hold special meaning for me. However, I envision The Cute North Georgian Magazine as more than a mere love letter to the North Atlanta area. It’s a platform where local creatives can contribute their own art, short stories, and articles, creating a vibrant community space. Hence, our internship program, where aspiring writers are compensated for their content creation while benefiting from low-pressure guidance in writing and publishing.
